Care For All at EAYFD 2026

We are proud to share our updates from the East Africa Youth Forum on Drugs (EAYFD) 2026, held in Arusha, Tanzania! The two-day forum kicked off on June 4, 2026, with opening remarks from EAYFD General Secretary, our founder, Hawa Omar, followed by regional co-chairs George Ochieng (Kenya) and Shabani Miraji (Tanzania). The event brought together over 200 participants, focusing heavily on regional collaboration and multi-sectoral strategies. Throughout the forum, attendees engaged in youth panel discussions regarding drug demand reduction, as well as country representations from Tanzania, Zanzibar, Kenya, Uganda, and many others. The agenda featured oral presentation sessions, covering important topics such as:

  • Prevention & Youth Engagement: Highlighting peer education hubs and youth-led policy implementation.
  • Treatment & Harm Reduction: Exploring evidence-based clinical treatment and regional harm reduction networks.
  • Mental Health & Psychosocial Support: Integrating system-wide prevention, recovery through crafts, and structural youth sports.
  • Policy & Advocacy: Evaluating legal engineering, ethical governance, and the utilization of evidence in national drug policies.
  • Innovation & Community Models: Looking at mobile mini-medical camps in rural areas, the power of storytelling in public health, and utilizing ex-drug users as peer educators.
The forum also included localized site visits, including trips to the Mount Meru MAT Clinic and a few local Sober Houses. We are incredibly energized by the knowledge shared and look forward to using these innovative models in our ongoing advocacy work!
